How to Fly Hassle-Free with Pets – Airlines Pet Policy

Flying with pets is a complicated task. It needs extra care as the pets are more than just luggage. Airlines Pet Policy – Do’s and Don’ts

Majority of the airline welcomes pets onboard – dog or cat. However, different airlines have different policies – so it is important to read the pet policies for hassle-free air travel.

United Airlines

United Airlines pet policy allows only a couple of dogs to fly in the cabin along with their owner. Therefore, the airline encourages passengers with pets to reserve space when planning to fly with a pet in the cabin. The airline allows pet reservations up to 30 days in advance and five days before a traveller plans to board the flight.

Pet in the Cabin

Pets flying in the cabin must be properly crated and the crate must be fit under the seat in front of you. All Pets should possess the pet tag provided by the agent during check-in. The airline allows only one pet dog in the cabin with a fee.

Pet in Cargo

United Airlines does not allow to fly pets as cargo.

Lufthansa Airlines

Lufthansa Airlines allows pets to travel both in the cabin as additional carry-on baggage or in cargo as a cargo hold. Passengers are advised to reserve a space for their pets in advance for a hassle-free flight.

Pets in Cabin

Travelers are allowed to fly with their pet in the cabin. By registering their pet whether cats or dogs as carry-on baggage and weight not exceeding 8 kg. Passengers are advised to register their pets no later than 72 hours before the flight departure.

Pets as Cargo

Cats and dogs exceeding 8kgs must be registered as excess baggage in the air-conditioned cargo hold. Passengers are advised to register their pets no later than 72 hours before the flight departure. Travellers can also contact the Service Centre up to 24 hours before the flight departure.

British Airways

British Airways has partnered with PetAir UK and IAG Cargo to safely transport your precious pets to your destination. The airline only allows a recognised service dog to travel with you in the cabin. Passengers transporting their pets out of the UK can take the help of PetAirUK. And those transporting pets to the UK from around the world can choose IAG Cargo for assistance.

Aer Lingus

Aer Lingus allows pets to travel both in cabin and cargo. Travellers must book a pet through a freight forwarder. Pets must comply with the rules and regulations of Ireland or and European Union, UK, USA, and Canada for hassle-free travel and entry.

Passengers must notify the airline in advance no less than 24 hours before the flight departure when travelling with pets. Aer Lingus allows trained service dogs to travel in the cabin along with their owner subject to certain rules and regulations.

The airline does not accept certain animals including dangerous dogs and cat breeds. The pet must be 15 weeks old and should be within the weight accepted weight limit of the airline’s pet policy.

Air Europa

Air Europa allows pets to travel in the cabin along with the owner or guardian. The owner is advised to arrive at the airport with sufficient time in hand for necessary check-in procedures. The airline may refuse to accept the pet due to non-compliance with Air Europa or the destination countries.

The airline allows each passenger to carry up to 5 pets including the cabin and hold. Passengers travelling with more than 5 pets can contact Air Europa’s Cargo Department. Pets must be over 3 months old to fly. Maximum of 3 pets are allowed within one container. The weight of the pet must not exceed 8kg, whereas the overall weight of the container including the animal must not exceed 10kg.

Alaska Airlines

Alaska Airlines allows pets to travel both in cabin and cargo. However, before flying with your pet it is important to know the policies and limitations which will eventually help you to plan for a hassle-free journey with your precious pet.

Alaska Airlines allows small pets to travel in a cabin with their owner and guardian, subject to the availability of space. A maximum of two pets are allowed to travel in the cabin subject to the availability of the adjacent seat. Dogs, cats, rabbits and household birds are allowed to fly in the main cabin.

Alaska Airlines accepts pets to fly in climate control cargo and baggage compartments for a certain fee. There are certain rules for pets to fly in the baggage compartment. The weight of the pet and carrier must not exceed 150 lbs. Dogs and cats must be over 8 weeks of age. Pets travelling in baggage compartments must comply with the carrier sizes. American Airlines

American Airlines accepts pets to fly in a cabin with the owner or travel as cargo with American Airlines Cargo. Only cats and dogs are allowed to travel in a cabin depending on compliance with the airline's pet policy. The airline accepts a single small dog inside the pet carrier that can easily fit under the seat in front of you. Pets are not permitted in First or Business class due to lack of space. American Airlines does not accept pets to travel as cargo. It only allows pets belonging to active-duty U.S. military and U.S. State Department Foreign Service.

Easyjet Airlines

Eva Airlines

Eva Airlines only allows Dogs, Cats, and Rabbits in their aircraft. They will be counted as checked baggage in the cargo compartment. This airline does not permit pet owners to carry their pets in the cabin. Only service dogs are allowed in the cabins. In case a pet is pregnant, then that animal will not be allowed to travel on the flight. The other restriction is that the pet should not be less than 4 months old. In this case, the pet will not be allowed.

To carry the pet, you need to inform Eva Airlines at least 48 hours before the departure time of the flight. You are also supposed to fill out a form, which is Passenger’s Declaration for Live Animal. Once you have filled it out, then submit it at the airport counter while you will check your pet.
